Wheew!
Nice to be dry again over here...LifeStriders is in its 6th year of service to southeast Wisconsin as a premiere therapeutic riding center for children and adults with special needs, including: Autism, Cerebral Palsy, and many other diagnosed physical and mental disabilities.
The flooding in southeast Wisconsin this year was another extraordinary weather event, considered by many to be in the 100 year category. According to Darrel Johnson, a professor of weather and climate at UW-Waukesha and Carroll University, "July 2010 was the second-wettest month ever for Milwaukee, behind only the 12.28" of rain that fell in June 2008."
LifeStriders is currently an exposed outdoor riding center and it depends on good spring, summer, and fall weather for safe, successful and consistent programming for all of its clients. LifeStriders is not able to operate safely when it receives this amount of rain, and it needed to shut down for over 3 weeks in July to dry out from this record setting rainfall.
LifeStriders needs your help, in this extrodinarily wet year, to make up for lost program revenue. As a goal for this campaign, LifeStriders aims to raise $6500 to offset the lost revenues, due to flooding of its pasture and riding areas, in the months of June and July.
Please consider contributing here to the LifeStriders Flood Relief Campaign. All of the proceeds from this campaign will go directly towards enabling therapeutic riding lessons now and in the future at LifeStriders. Thank you for your continued support of LifeStriders and its mission.

Published by veronica on Monday, March 08, 2010 at 3/08/2010 01:13:00 PM.LifeStriders believes that riders of all abilities achieve the greatest benefits from consistency in their lessons. To this end, we do our utmost to provide consistent instructors, volunteers and horses for our riders. We serve a significant number of riders each week, and take great efforts to find time slots that best meet your/your child’s needs and volunteers to assist with our therapeutic lessons. As a result, we ask all of our riders to make a commitment to attendance at their lessons for each session that they enroll in. We understand that illnesses and unforeseen circumstances may arise that will necessitate a cancellation in a scheduled lesson.
During each lesson block (spring, summer and fall), LifeStriders will give a credit or will attempt to reschedule if possible in the event of cancellation due to inclement weather, or sickness on the part of our instructors or horses. Understanding that unforeseen illnesses may occur we request that you give us 24 hours notice when possible, so that we have adequate time to notify our instructors and our volunteers who assist with lessons. We will attempt to reschedule lessons missed due to illness based on class and volunteer availability, but please understand that rescheduling is not guaranteed. Only in cases where doctor's orders mandate discontinuing therapeutic riding, will credits be given for future lesson blocks. All credits must be used within that year and will expire in the new year. Special circumstances will be considered on a case by case basis.
Thank You
2009 Individual Annual Giving Campaign

On behalf of all the people whose lives are touched
by LifeStriders - THANK YOU. Because of the dedication of the organization’s 175+ volunteers and your generous support, this year LifeStriders provided over 1000 Equine Assisted Therapy lessons to over 70 individuals with special needs (5000 lessons since opening in 2005). LifeStriders had an exciting year in 2009 conducting additional programs including:
• Counseling services for individuals, children and families
• Social Skills Programs, which help children with autism or social emotional impairments increase social awareness
• Youth Programs that support interpersonal skills development, community service, drop-out prevention and occupational skills
LifeStriders is a non-proft organization that is nationally registered and certified through the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association. As a 501(c)3 charity, we rely heavily on donations to support our Therapeutic Riding Center and its variety of programs. Donations from this campaign will be used towards program development, rider scholarships, purchasing supplies and maintaining the LifeStriders facilities.
Serving children, adults and seniors with a wide variety of physical, cognitive and psychological challenges, LifeStriders provides therapeutic services that go above and beyond traditional therapies. By focusing on individual strengths that help each client reach their goals, LifeStriders offers services in a fun, holistic and experiential paradigm. Miracles happen at LifeStriders, when after weeks of therapy a 7 year old child speaks his first words or an adult debilitated by Muscular Dystrophy gains the strength to be able to sit up straight on her horse and transfer more independently to her wheelchair.
LifeStriders is approaching our sixth year of providing life-enhancing physical and psychological experiences and services to individuals with special needs. The organization is excited about the year ahead but we need your help. On behalf of the children and families that LifeStriders serve, we wish you a wonderful holiday season and we thank you again for your generous support.
Sincerely,
The LifeStriders Team
Through your support, Kellie is a child of growing abilities, not limiting disabilities.
